What’s your preference of HDTV? From a home theater point-of-view this is an important element but the truth is, when choosing your TV, it really is your decision.

Yes, you’ll get a ton of advice and information and that’s great but you really want a unit which you’re going to be happy with, not someone else.

Home theater is a personal thing, from the type of TV to the sound system to the seating arrangements. Everyone has their own peculiarities and the first rule of setting up your showpiece is…”Don’t build it to someone else’s satisfaction!”

As far as television is concerned, there are many issues which come into play such as size, picture and the ability to have it wall mounted. What’s your preference?

Projection TVs

If you are into size and a budget then projection televisions are great. You get plenty of “bang for your buck” with a projection unit including the best screen size for your outlay. You also have the option of DLP and LCD technology with today’s units.

The only drawback of course is if you prefer the wall mounted look.

LCD TVs

Flat screen LCDs are more expensive than their rear projection cousins and are much smaller in size. They are lauded for their brightness and contrast levels and the problem of burn in isn’t really an issue.

Another factor in their favor is their low power consumption. This is important if you are an avid television watcher and for home theater TV purposes, then this is a plus.

Plasma TVs

Plasmas are very slim these days making them ideal to be wall mounted. They are still regarded as having the best color delivery as well as high contrast ratio for greater detail.

They also provide the widest viewing angles which is great if seating placement becomes an issue. On the downside, their life expectancy is shorter but this is not really an issue in our book.

Their life expectancy is somewhere between 20-30,000 hours. This equates to 15-20 years with a set used 4-6 hours a day.

With today’s rapidly increasing technology, a set bought today is going to be pretty ancient by the time it’s due to burn out and in all likelihood, a new home theater TV will have already replaced it.

Do you have a spare room? Why not turn it into a media room? This is a great way to make use of that space as it will help increase the value of your property and it will make your home more lucrative. This is a great idea if you want to spend more time with your family and friends at home and have fun. Enjoy your favorite film or sing your favorite songs. This all depends on what you have in your media room.

But how will you make such transformation a success? This project will not be easy; however, if you are ready and if you have a good plan, nothing could go wrong. Just think of the rewards you will enjoy once your media room is done.

What to prepare?

There are several things you need to prepare. Among them is your budget. You should decide how much you would spend on this project. This can be costly even if you already have the room. This is due to the devices and furniture you will purchase. You will also need to allocate a certain amount for the different renovations you might need in the room. You also need to include in your budget the materials needed. If you are not going to do this yourself, allocate payment for labor as well.

The area of the room matters too. The spare room may not be big enough for the type of media room you have in mind. However, you can still achieve a great room even in a limited space. Just choose the devices and furniture wisely. Measure the room and the space available. Think of how you can maximize it before making any purchases.

You will also need a good plan. This is important to achieve a great media room. You can ask a professional designer to make the design for you. However, you can also do this on your own. Just make sure that you research for great plans.

Permits may also be required even if you are not building any additional structure. If you are not sure that it is necessary, call your local building agency to inquire. A permit may be needed because your electrical wires will be altered during the transformation.

The renovation:

After everything has been set, the renovation of the room will surely be successful. No major changes are necessary if you have a large room. Most of the time, you will only need to paint the walls and ceilings, add a few devices and put the comfortable couch in place. However, if there are changes that you cannot handle like tearing a wall or adding a door, then hire a carpenter to ensure better results.

You have to accept that you cannot handle everything. It is important that you entrust important processes to the pros. An example would be the installation of electrical devices and the managing of the wires. Let an electrician handle this to avoid problems and mishaps.

It is definitely great to have a media room at home. Not only will you find time and venue to bond with your family, you will also help boost the value of your home.

With your own marine audio systems, you can transfer your car system to your boat. It is quite new in the market but a lot of stereo products have already been customized to be used on the boat.

In fact, there are car audio manufacturers that are specifically designing for marine audio systems.

You can design your own marine audio systems by following the same steps. Survey your boat. Check the areas where the audio products are placed and see whether the water can reach these.

The amplifiers are placed in the engine compartment near the rear of the boat or under the dashboard. The delicate parts should not be close to the water. The subwoofers can be placed under the seats.

The radio replaces the original radio. With your customized system, you can also adjust the midbass and midrange speakers as well as the twitters. Do this so that the system can fit under the dash or into the side panels.

It helps to take photographs of the locations you would put it in. At least you already have the dimensions with you. These facts can help you choose the products that will fit in the places that you selected.

You can lay the system out in your head or draw it out. Make a plan. Determine where you will put all the components.

For research, you can contact the manufacturers. By using their pattern of where to route the wires, you can set your system up in a coherent manner as well.

You can also contact them for retailer recommendations. By comparing the parts of the marine audio systems, you can canvass for the parts that you want and the parts that you need. Set your marine audio systems up that is your most ideal.

When choosing speakers, we suggest that you get the polypropylene. This is a rigid material that can resist moisture. You can have two 10 inch subwoofers for your speakers.

Remember to design the speakers that will be appropriate for infinite baffle mounting. You can also include four other speakers that are separate from the main ones.

Just make the two way speaker of your marine audio systems the midbass speaker and the midrange speaker. Don’t forget to include a tweeter.

After you’re done designing, take a step back and look at your masterpiece. Then take a step closer and listen in.

Wide Screen HDTV’s have been around for quite awhile. The idea came from wide screen movies which you normally see in the theatre. If it can be done there, why not have the same viewing pleasure at home?

This is why in 1995, the US FCC or Federal Communications Commission set the standard for all wide screen HDTV’s to have the 1920 by 1080 pixel format. Such dimensions were not decided on a whim but rather in line with the 16×9 aspect ratio used by most movie producers. In fact, this is also used with the 720p/1080i HDTV broadcasts and widescreen DVDs.

Over the past 2 years, sales of widescreen HDTV’s have increased despite its expensive price. Although you can get one for £300, the higher end models which cost £1500 have a lot to offer to the consumer.

One significant difference with the wide screen HDTV’s is the enhancement of the letterbox bars which are the black bars on the edge of a TV. With a flick of the remote, you can crop, stretch or zoom a 4:3 display so it will be able to fill the screen.

When this is set to normal, you will see the black bars on both sides of your screen. If you enlarge or zoom what you are watching, these black bars are nowhere to be seen but the downside is that this crops the image in the top and bottom areas. If you want to watch this in the formal which the movie was made, set it on full or wide mode.

The ability of a television that can show the audience how the producer intended it to be viewed is truly the selling point of the widescreen HDTV. This is even if some consumers say that there are drawbacks like the image on the screen may be sometimes smaller and there is a loss of resolution.

But should this discourage you from buying this product? Perhaps but a lot of people will say no because you are still able to watch a movie much better than your regular television.

When you decide to buy a wide screen HDTV, consider the size of TV bases on the resolution. This is because watching a television too close could damage your eyes so see to it that the unit you will purchase has sufficient room in your home so this can be viewed at a safe distance.

For instance, a 50 inch wide screen HDTV should be best viewed at a distance of more than 12 feet from the screen.

Since it is thinner than the regular television, you can turn almost any room in your house into a mini theatre.

Analysts say that widescreen HDTV’s have a bright future as more programs will now be produced in this format. This means although you will spend a bundle getting one right now, it is well worth it if you are always glued to the tube.

So what are you waiting for? If you have the money and the space, you should go out and shop for a wide screen HDTV. There are plenty of brands to choose from so before you pick one, compare the features and benefits of each product and also take into account the price.

The Salter 1450 Scale is one of the best selling nutritional Salter scales on the market. But, as with any product, there are pros and cons. Below is a very detailed list of all of the pros and cons I was able to find about the product based on customer reviews.

The Pros were, of course generally favorable. Most reviews raved about how the Salter 1450 Scale is the best nutritional scale you could possibly buy for a diabetic. When used consistently, it’s also been said to be a great tool for losing weight.

Pros

Analyzes nutritional content of food by portion size.

Great for calorie counters and low carbohydrate dieters.

Works right out of the box.

Doesn’t take up much counter space.

Very durable.

Recommended by endocrinologists.

Can be used with batteries or plugged into a wall outlet.

Designed for better portion control.

Calculates calories, protein, carbohydrates, fat, sugar, fiber, sodium, and cholesterol.

Great for diabetics.

Large LCD Display.

Comes with pre-programmed nutritional values of 1,400 different foods.

Has extra memory for 100 programmable foods of your choice.

Measures both liquids and solids.

Can record daily food intake and set dietary goals.

Comes with a 10 year warranty if bought new.

Great to travel with.

Comes with batteries if bought new.

Cons

Slow response time when retrieving nutritional data.

Cell phone like numeric keypad.

LCD readout is dim.

Unhealthy foods in pre-programmed database such as candy bars.

Entering entire recipes is cumbersome.

Instructions for adding recipes can be complicated to some.

Customer service isn’t very helpful with helping customers learn how to use the scale.

The biggest complaint I found by several customers was that this scale is not particularly user friendly. It takes the average person about an hour to learn how to use the scale to it’s full potential. If you’re not patient enough to take the time to learn how the scale works, then purchasing it would be ill advised.

Hopefully this list has given you better insight into the advantages and drawbacks of the Salter 1450 Scale. It can be a powerful tool in the hands of someone patient and capable. It can also be a nightmare for those with little patience and zero electronic handling skills. Use your due diligence and choose your nutritional scale wisely, whether it be the Salter 1450 Scale or another.

Default settings

As we mentioned earlier, the new TV you have just bought will come with default settings, tuned by the factory. Why does not the picture look as good as in the store, once the TV lands in your living room? It is because of the default settings, which are meant to show a good quality picture under the conditions you find in the electronics store, where many lights are on. Needless to say, these are not exactly the conditions in your living room.

Do it yourself

The first solution that will cross your mind will be to take the matter into your own hands when it comes to HDTV calibration. And you are not wrong. You will find that your gadget has plenty of display controls that you can fiddle with, in order to get the picture to be displayed as you desire. An optimal state for all these controls, in strong relation to the optimal viewing distance and the quality of the content that you will watch, exists, there is just a matter of finding it.

If these methods do not deliver, than you can consider the next one.

HDTV calibration DVD

The second method implies a visit to the store. You need to buy a HDTV calibration DVD, which main role is to show you some test patterns, after which you will be able to select the proper brightness, color, contrast or sharpness. These tools are pretty straightforward and you do not need to be amazingly tech savvy to be able to work with them.

If you consider that you can spend extra cash in order to get the best picture quality, then the third method is for you.

Hire a professional

There is no doubt about it: even if you can adjust the picture within your own means, HDTV calibration is a thing that professionals can do best. There is, however, the matter of expense, as these people do not do this for free, but for quite a hefty price. If you can afford it, and you really want to get the best out of your HDTV, then you know what to do.

HDTV calibration is not rocket science, and anyone can do it with a little time and effort. There are tools that can help you in the process, like optimization DVD’s, but the best result can be obtained only by a technician with great knowledge in the field. When you want to calibrate your HDTV, do not forget to read the LCD TV Calibration guide (applies to any type of HDTV). Also, keep in mind that calibration can improve the picture but it can’t do miracles. Make sure you buy a good TV to be sure you get great picture quality. Choose one of the Best HDTV models and you can’t go wrong.

Choosing the right HDTV for you can be difficult. It really depends on how much money you have and what you’re trying to do. Of course, you also need to consider what other AV gear you intend on buying. In this article I’ll help you decide what to look for when shopping for a new HDTV so you don’t get too much TV for your needs, or wish that you’d gotten more.

There are three basic types of HDTV’s. Each form has it’s own advantages and disadvantages so you’ll need to weigh all of them before deciding on a particular model.

First there are flat-panel HDTV’s. These are the super-thin models that can be hung on the wall. Flat-panel models come in two flavors:

Plasma -

Pros: thin, good picture, good color.

Cons: less-than-perfect black, screen burn-in, costly.

LCD -

Pros: same as plasma plus no burn-in.

Cons: Black is poorest, costly, angle of view.

Both types of flat-panel models feature the same sleek, sexy looks, so in some ways it’s just preference.

Next there are projection HDTV’s. These also fall into two main types:

Front Projection – This is the closest equivalent to the movie theater experience with a large screen on the wall and a projector across the room.

Pros: biggest screen, potentially best picture.

Cons: expensive, complicated, higher maintenance.

Rear Projection – The picture is projected on the back of a screen built into the HDTV.

Pros: best bargain, no burn-in, fairly thin.

Cons: size, brightness.

Finally there are CRT HDTV’s. These are based on the picture tube as in standard TV’s.

Pros: cheapest, best color, best blacks.

Cons: smallest screen, bulky, lower resolution.

Given these choices, these are the things you should consider first when buying an HDTV:

What’s your budget? Consider your total budget for the TV and all other home theater items.

What size do you want? Make sure the size you’re looking at will fit in your space.

 — More than anything else, these two questions will narrow your selections the most —

What do you plan on using it for? Sports fans might prefer a DLP system, while someone who watched Fox News all day might want to avoid plasma due to the potential of burn-in.

What will you hook it up to? Make sure the HDTV you’re considering has the connections for all of your other hardware.

Which cool features do you want most? This question should be asked last. No matter how much you want a specific feature, if it’s not in your budget or is only available on models that won’t work for your application, they’re unimportant.

Every HDTV has benefits and drawbacks. Before spending a lot on a new HDTV, make sure you first identify your specific needs then research the different models available that will eet your needs while staying within your budget.

There are many reasons why someone may need to monitor the nutritional values of the foods that they intake. Diabetes and weight loss are probably the two most common reasons. While some people still subscribe to archaic methods of keeping up with their dietary needs, such as with a clunky dictionary thick dietary guide and a pen and paper, many are ready to move into the 21st century and start utilizing the amazing technology that man has come up with.

Truth be told, there are many different types of nutritional scales on the market today. Some of the more popular makers of nutritional scales include EatSmart, Kitrics, Escali, NewLine, American Weigh, Biggest Loser, Taylor, and Handstands. So, with so many different brands to choose from, why should you choose a Salter brand scale?

Salter has been around for over 200 years. They’ve paved the way and been an innovation for many of the scales that we see on the market today. It’s safe to say that Salter is one of the most, if not the most, trusted company in the scale manufacturing industry. They stand behind every one of their products 100% and put their money where their mouth is by offering a 5 to 10 year warranty on the majority of their scales when they are purchased new.

The Salter nutritional scale can be an amazing tool in your battle against weight loss and diabetes. Many of Salter’s digital scales have pre-programmed databases of over 1,000 foods, depending on the model. A large amount of Salter’s digital scales also have the super handy add and weigh feature. With this feature you can put something on top of the scale, zero the scale out, and add another ingredient to weigh in without having to remove the first ingredient. Most Salter scales can even weigh both solids and liquids.

So, is a Salter nutritional scale right for you? That’s for you to decide. Use your due diligence, shop around, read customer reviews, compare features. But I’m almost 100% sure you’ll end up with a Salter nutritional scale, and you’ll likely never want to purchase another brand of scale again.

Never heard the word 1080p HDTV? What is the meaning of 1080p? The words of 1080p and HDTV actually show the same meaning, namely the resolution. 1080p more specific definitely where “1080″ represent 1080 vertical scan lines and “p” means progressive scan (the image is not interlaced). 1080p can be referred to as full HD or high definition to differentiate from other HDTV video modes.

How to buy a Flat Screen Television in 6 easy steps:

1.How much do you want to spend? Give yourself a price range and stick to it . For

example if you are looking to spend no more than $3000 only look at televisions in

that range. And remember you get what you pay for in the world of flat screen

televisions. If you get a Plasma Display for under $2000 remember that it will not

have a picture like a Plasma that sells for $4000. Here is a list of price ranges and

screens available in those ranges : $1500 – $2500 : will get you a decent EDTV 42″

Plasma made by a Top brand name, or a HDTV LCD in the 20″ to 30″ range, and a

low end HDTV DLP or LCD projection

$2500 – 3500 : this is the price range that most 42″ Plasmas, 30″ – 37″ LCD and 50″

rear projection televisions fall into. Plan on getting a excellent display if you are

willing to spend close to $3500 (all HDTV)

$3500 and up : this price range the Plasma,LCD and rear projection screen sizes

start getting larger and you get top of the line brand names such as Sony, Hitachi

and Panasonic in the larger screen sizes and more options available such as input

and outputs.

2. Plasma vs LCD vs LCD or DLP rear projection

choose Plasma : if you want overall great color saturation, contrast and screen size

choose LCD : if you want your screen to double as a computer monitor or video

game console such as XBOX 360 with HDTV, they look insane

choose DLP or LCD rear projection : if you are going for screen size and budget

3. Screen Size, Screen Size, Screen Size. This might be one of the most important

factors to you when selecting a television because we all know bigger is always

better. With the larger screen sizes especially 50″ and up we are in the true HDTV

range. Remember when shopping for the display always look at it at a local retailer

such as a Circuit City or Best Buy even if you are going to purchase it online.

Basically you want to see it for yourself. (Note: when viewing screen sizes in t he

store always remember they will appear smaller than they actually are when you get

them home, because they are all placed next to each other. The 42″ actually look

small when they are all hung next to each other at the stores but when you get it

home you will see it is no joke.)

4. What connectivity options do you require. Basically what are you going to need to

connect this television to your existing cable or satellite receiver or over the air

antenna. Do you have a audio system you are going to want to connect? What

connections do you desire such as HDMI? Component VIdeo? and so on. You should

always look for the highest quality connections for video if you can. Video

connection quality from highest to lowest is HDMI, component-video, S-Video,

composite-video (white and yellow A/V cables) and antenna/cable inputs.

Remember you will need enough inputs for everything you are going to connect to

the television such as a DVD player, DVR, satellite, cable, computer and other

devices. Also the cables that come with most displays or devices (if they even do)

aren’t of the greatest quality and I would suggest getting a high end cable such as

those made by Monster Cables.

5. Picture Quality. I feel this is the most important deciding factor when purchasing

a Plasma, LCD or rear projection TV. The only way to determine this is to actually

compare displays side by side, read reviews and specifications. If you are going to

compare displays at a store bring a DVD alone to use as a reference when judging

between different displays.

6. Warranty and Service Contract. Make sure the display you are going to purchase

has at least a 1 year warranty on parts and labor offered by the manufacturer and it

would be a great idea to purchase a extended warranty and service contract

especially on a Plasma display because if something does go wrong fixing the

display will cost much more than just buying a new one. (note: if you are installing a

display on a wall always have professional do it!)

Enjoy your new Television!
